Aziza! Documentary Sampler Screening
|
|
Saturday, June 6th 8:00pm - 10:00pm All Ages
Free Event
The
first Middle Eastern restaurant in the United States - Club Zara -
opened in Boston in 1952. Because of the similarities in culture,
cuisine and social life, the Lebanese, Greeks and Armenians (all of
whom started settling here 100 years ago) began mingling at each
other's restaurants. This was a phenomenon unique in the U.S. Aziza!
is a documentary (pre-production) that offers a unique perspective on
how three ethnic groups intermingled socially, and how nightlife played
a vivid role in the immigrant experience of these communities. An
11-minute sampler of the documentary Aziza! will be shown at
9 p.m. Speakers will give a short introduction to the project. Vintage
photographs and dance costumes, and related artwork will be on exhibit.
