WorkingStories - Karen Westphalen Part of Lowell Women's Week
|
|
Friday, March 6th 8:00pm-10:00pm Admission $7 ($5 for TRM Members) Ages 18+ (Part of Women’s Week) Karen
Westphalen will give an artist talk about her project WorkingStories.
WorkingStories is an audio documentary created from interviews with
women and men who have worked in the sex industry. This project intends
to portray the real lives of individuals who are frequently
misunderstood and misrepresented. Many of the interviewees discuss
their work as something that they chose to do. By challenging ourselves
to see beyond the negative stereotypes, we can hopefully begin to
understand the plight of those for whom prostitution is a trap, not a
choice, the individuals who most need help in order to find a way out.

entertains and inspires. Cave paintings have given us a peek into the
past. Performance tells a story through dance and music. Paintings have
enchanted us with images of the human experience and multimedia will
bring our stories to future generations. The
Revolving Museum gallery will feature narrative art for 2009.
