The Stay in School SPOOL 500 Logo Contest
with the Greater Lowell Technical High School

This contest began with a visit from Jerry Beck, artistic director of the Revolving Museum. The collaborative efforts of the Museum and Greater Lowell Tech's Graphic Arts students resulted in over 50 entries. The Students researched car racing, soap box derby racing, and antique yarn spools. Their logos then attempted to capture the spirit of SPOOL 500 which will be held during one of Lowell's most celebrated events; the Lowell Folk Festival. The students worked from their sketches and executed the final pieces on the computer using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Here are some of the results, featuring the winning entries which will be used for t-shirt designs to be sold during the SPOOL 500 festivities to help raise money for future Revolving Museum education programming.
