Nature to Structure, 2003

Recycled wood, windows and doors

I find treasures in other people’s trash and bring broken things back to life. I build to surround myself with walls and windows and doors that function both by allowing the viewer to enter and inhabit the piece and by providing them with an opportunity to respond emotionally to the work.

During the construction of Nature to Structure, I was fortunate to have assistance from other artists, friends, and even my father. Materials were gathered and donated by Lowell residents and the piece became a small-scale downtown barn-raising.

Very special thanks to: Jerry Beck, Mark Heron, Ladislav Volicer, Ryan Walker, Jack Welch, and Barbara Zeles.
