LOCALMOTIVE: Public Art off the Beaten Path
The Revolving Museum's "LocalMotive: Public Art off the Beaten
Path" is a series of public artworks, exhibitions, and community
events responding to and reclaiming the inactive railroad tracks
and alleyways in the historic downtown of Lowell, MA. LocalMotive
unites a talented team of artists, students, civic and cultural
leaders in an art-based urban revitalization and citywide celebration.
"LocalMotive: Public Art Off the Beaten Path" poetically
marks the 20-year history of the museum. Our first show was "The
Little Train That Could...Show", a public art project in
twelve-abandoned railroad cars. Over twelve public artworks are
available for viewing
throughout downtown Lowell. The many parts
of downtown Lowell that have been overlooked and under-appreciated
are being given new life because of the creative vision of artists
and community members alike.
For the exhibition component of "LocalMotive", the gallery
will once again be transformed. As the twelve public sculptures
unveiled this summer converted the outdoors into a museum, the
natural world is now
being exhibited
inside the gallery. Journey from room to room experiencing strange,
exotic, and ecologically sensitive environments created with materials
artists discovered on their own journeys off the beaten path.
