The Revolving Museum Internship/ Volunteer Descriptions

Assistant to the Artistic Director

An assistant is needed to work with Artistic Director Jerry Beck. Students will translate his artistic vision into visual displays, PowerPoint presentations and models. Working closely with Mr. Beck, the founder of The Revolving Museum and visual artist, interns will learn first-hand how the Museum is run and will observe the process of generating new exhibitions and public art projects.

Event Helper

Work closely with the Museum’s Gallery Administrator, to produce cultural events at the Museum. This will include planning and researching new events, promotion, facility preparation and attending events. You will help to brainstorm with Janice on how to make Museum events more successful and help to plan events that will draw new audiences. Events are diverse: from birthday parties and poetry readings to dog carnivals and film nights. Use your creative imagination to expand our programming.

Gallery Attendant

The Museum’s gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 11am to 4pm. Interns are sought to work all or part of these hours including time before and after for gallery preparation and clean-up. You will prepare the gallery each day, greet the public, explain the current exhibition and the mission of the museum, sell store items and memberships as well as assist the gallery manager with other duties as assigned.

Graphic Design/Web Design

The Revolving Museum has several projects where a graphic design student(s) would be very helpful. Intern projects include creating marketing tools such as PowerPoint presentations to support programs and initiatives, brochures and other promotional print pieces. The Museum is also looking to redesign its website and electronic monthly newsletter, and a student with these skills could work on either of these projects. Other graphic design requests include providing graphic elements for the monthly e-newsletter, stationary templates, business cards, thank you cards, invitations and signage. Students can be involved with print production including selecting print vendors, preparing print files, and conducting press checks. The Museum also has 20-years worth of artwork documentation in the form of slides and digital images that need organizing. This would entail scanning some slides and establishing a digital image library.

Photographers/Videographers

A photography student is needed to document all Revolving Museum activities and events. Primary duties include photographing or videotaping student workshops and youth program activities, exhibition openings, festivals, artwork documentation, public art, fundraisers, First Thursday events and personnel photos for the website. Depending upon the student’s abilities, they may be asked to collaborate with a graphic designer to choose images for publication, prepare image files, and help finalize print design. Other duties may include cataloging images and distributing marketing materials.

Art Education Assistants

The Revolving Museum runs educational programs at Lowell Public Schools and at the Museum itself. Interns are needed to assist workshop artists with instruction and coordination in all educational programs. Programs are typically held in the afternoons from 2pm to 6pm. Special event educational workshops are also held year round. Interns will observe teaching techniques, help instruct the children, and assist the lead artist to prepare curriculum and materials.

Revolving Museum Art Ambassador

The Revolving Museum seeks a student to act as an Art Ambassador on their campus and/or the Lowell area. The student will post flyers and place postcards advertising The Revolving Museum’s exhibits and cultural events on campus and seek other ways to advertise to students and faculty. The goal of the Art Ambassador is to educate students about The Revolving Museum, to encourage them to visit and/or to become members. The Art Ambassador may also work to expand this marketing approach to include other schools and or local communities that do not normally visit Lowell's Arts & Culture district or museums. The student will work closely with Revolving Museum staff to establish a route, posting places and overall marketing plan for the semester. A student with communications or graphic design abilities is helpful but not necessary. The student should like to talk and meet people, have the time and energy to post flyers at many locations and be enthusiastic about art!
